3 ways to wear a silk scarf

Post image for 3 ways to wear a silk scarf

Today as I got dressed for a regular ol’ day of errands, I wanted to add a little unexpected element to my outfit. Something with a pop of color. I chose this beautiful silk scarf, and I realized that not everyone knows how versatile these little lovelies are!

You may have a favorite silk scarf at home or that someone gave as a gift but have no idea how to wear it. Or you may be stuck in a silk scarf rut. A scrut. And a scrut is no fun. So check out these fun variations you can implement in your everyday type look, along with my special Curvy Girl Tips for tweaking each look to our particular style challenges (p.s. these tips can work for any shape, too!).

3 ways to wear a silk scarf

1. Headband

There’s nothing easier than tying a scarf around your head to top off an otherwise regular outfit. I like to pull some hair in front of the scarf so I don’t look baldy-ish, so play with this a bit until you find what looks best on your head. Curvy girl tip: Give the crown of your hair a bit of a tease for some body on top to balance out what the scarf will cut off from your face. Trust me on this.

2. Belt

Another place to pop some color on is to wear your scarf as a belt! It adds such interest and gives your waist definition. Curvy girl tip: If the scarf doesn’t fit all the way around to be a belt, just wear a thin regular belt and wrap the scarf around the belt you’re wearing to secure it (that’s what I did in this picture).

3. Neckerchief

Ok so neckerchief is a really fun word, but it’s also just a fun way to wear a silk scarf. Worn this way, it doesn’t make me too warm and it’s fun and makes me feel sassy. There are several ways to tie the neckerchief look, I took the mom-headed-out-the-door version and piled my hair on top of my head and just folded the scarf and tied it. Curvy girl tip: be sure to not have the scarf too close to your face, we want to see some of your neck so that the silhouette is longer and leaner.

As always, I’m linking up with Abby today for Dress For The Day and also with Lindsey for WIWW.

I seriously think the trick is balancing out your hair with a little tease and some body on top!

What a pretty scarf! I love your tips too. I’ve never thought to wrap a scarf around a skinny belt, but it’s a great idea!
