The wind blows her fresh forming curls
and she takes in a big baby-sized gasp.
The wind still excites her.
We take a page from her book and lay on our backs on the trampoline,
her three big brothers and I,
and we slow our minds and mouths
and listen for the wind.
At first all we hear is the parrot that lives in the backyard over,
screaming all human-like with his hollering.
Then we hear the plane overhead and the truck going by the street out front.
Next it’s the lawnmower down the street,
and by now the boys are telling me they’ll never be able to hear the wind.
I show them how the leaves in the tree above our head are waving,
so the wind is there,
it’s just waiting on us.
We wait and listen bigger.
A far off doggy barks and suddenly all those noises,
each of them,
gets pulled up by a drawstring and carried to the back of our minds as we soar past them,
into the quiet places where you pause and notice Creation.
The wind makes its loud triumphant presence known
and the big boys gasp big boy-sized gasps
And realize the wind still excites them too.
They say they feel like baby sister, all giggly from the wind.
My eyes open up big and gulp them all in and we say we’ll always remember.
I have a new project on the horizon! This post is sponsored by Disney Baby. I’ll be joining the Disney Baby blogging team next month, and look forward to sharing these kinds of stories (plus projects, ideas, etc.) with you over there! Stay tuned for more details!
