We stood in a courtroom and heard our state of financial affairs announced to the whole room.
The judge slammed hammer and we let breath out and came home to the home we’d lost to find that same lie being whispered over us like the smokey trail off the end of a cigarette.
“Things got worse. You must have unrepentant sin. You must not be living in obedience. All this keeps happening to you because of your poor decisions and your weak faith. Repent. Repent. Repent.”
It didn’t matter if our church had played a part in what had happened.
It didn’t matter what really happened at all.
Bad things only happen to bad people, right?
